Jagged! Yeeeeeehaw!! It sounds like the title for a bad TV Western series.

main page-- Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games editors and utilities

Warning! These only seem to work with the unpatched JA:DG (that is, the original version 1.00) and not with 1.12 or 1.13 (some might work, but don't risk it-- you may lose your saved games and cause a CRC error by editing them...)!! Please view the readme file for each program. These editing tools are quite small (under 200 Kb each and most are less than 100 Kb). I am not the author of any of these, but they are all free.

  • 3 Deadly Games utilities (qheal2.zip) -- includes the famous Quick Healing utility, Medic, and JagMax (max out all of your current mercs' abilities and stats!) programs. They work only on saved games in the first slot ("save 0"!).

  • DG Campaign to Scenario converter -- I haven't tried this, but the author says that you can extract all of the scenarios from any campaign with this tool. Pretty nice if you'd like to play mission 29 without having to play all of the first 28, or if you'd like to view/change any mission in the scenario editor!

  • Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games saved game editor (Dged3205.exe) -- for Windows 95/98, and one of the more useful editors (excellent equipment presets, as well as being the only tool that I've found that will put two of your chosen items in each slot). I prefer the 16-bit version below.

  • Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games saved game editor (Dged1605.exe) -- the same, but for Windows 3.1 and W95/98 (16-bit). This one was tough to find (I learned of it from the readme of the 32-bit version above, but I could never find it until now)! (I have W98, but this version displays better on my system than the 32-bit version, oddly enough!)

  • Deadly Games Profile Editor (the great proed.zip)! -- this one is definitely the best-- change all attributes/ weapons/ inventories on all three levels of difficulty (basic, normal, generous equipment)/ names/ nicknames/ attributes (you can get rid of Pops' annoying forgetfulness or Leetch's stubbornness, and much more)! For example, you can give all your mercs 100 points in every ability, as well as an experience level of 10, top equipment on all equipment levels, and set their salaries at $5 per mission if you really wanted to (although there's no challenge in that, but what the heck!)

For some sample ideas, please visit my Editing mercs page.

The only thing that the pro-ed editor can't do is change the biographical descriptions, unfortunately-- what fun that could've been!!

Oh but wait! Stop the presses! With Linx's beta .edt editor, you can change your merc's biographies. It's beta and unfinished, but it seems to work fine... works on Jagged Alliance, JA: Deadly Games, and Jagged Alliance 2. Go wild!

  • A different save game editor -- interesting! You can actually set stats above 100 with this one (although doing this seems to have the same effect as a 100 stat, as far as I can tell).

  • Deadly Games Trader, v1.2 (Sick of Micky? Try the trader! Buy whatever you want and not just the crappy .38 ammo and broken metal detectors that Micky, the annoying arms dealer, tries to dump on you at random! Works with any saved game, but there's a $1000 entry fee.)

Here's another tip: try to buy a ridiculous amount (50) of an expensive item (such as mortars or grenade launchers)-- not only will you get your items, but you'll also end up with more money than you had started with!! A nice bug in the program! This only works with the original version of the Trader.

  • Cheaper trade.dat file for the Trader -- modified M16's and mortars, etc. are way too expensive ($9000??) in the original Trader... a cheat of a cheat??? My prices are pretty cheap, but fair... what do you think? With this, you can also buy Eagle Screamers, etc. (never available in the original Trader version, for some odd reason). I am distributing this separately, out of respect for the author of the Trader program. Rename the original file and place this in the same directory as the Trader.exe program.

  • DG Money Editor -- simply gives you however much money you want for any saved game! An extra $300000 or so makes a little difference, yes? (So forget my stupid trade.dat file and pay whatever you want for weapons, and hire all the top mercs for a change as well!!) :) This is very easy to use.

A Few Freakin' Links, Ace!

  • The Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games Mercenary Contracting Center -- almost sounds like a real place (no, you won't find a job here, Sparky)! It has a lively forum, many player campaigns and scenarios, and a bit about the strategy of the game. This is the top place to be for JADG, unless it goes down again! [If it does, I'll upload some campaigns and scenarios at Jagged! instead.]

  • Yahoo! Groups-- Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games (formerly eGroups) -- it's quite good. You'll find a few addtional campaigns and scenarios here, including a World War II mission that the members are building in progress. This is perhaps the most current thread of JADG happenings (yes, the game lives on!)-- even the main creator of the series, Ian Currie, is a member! You don't need to be a member in order to access their files.

  • Troy's Deadly Games Pages -- He has a few unique player-made missions here and is the author of the JA:DG money editor! Nice! (This is the correct link. The link on his main page incorrectly points to a non-existing "index2.html" page, rather than the real "dg.html".)

  • Jagged Alliance Galaxy -- this site focuses mainly on the newer games (JA2, Unfinished Business, as well as news about Jagged Alliance 3), but it offers a few files for Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games

  • Lady Doom's Deadly Games Page -- wow, there is a woman who actually plays this game (I had thought that only men played this stereotypical game!) and you'll enjoy her opinions about each of the JADG mercs, even if you don't agree with her! An oldie, but a goodie, and it's still up as of this writing.

  • Where can I find Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games?

  • Search online auctions, or the local "Yahoo! Shopping: Computers" of your country, or "buy Jagged Alliance Deadly Games" on your favorite search engine, for example. It's not exactly a walk in the park, but it's hardly impossible, and, when you do find it, it will almost always be less than $8-10. Searches: "Jagged Alliance", "Deadly Games" (both in quotes to match exact phrases). Some abandonware sites might have this, but, even if you find it, you'll probably want the full CD game, anyhow! The ripped versions don't have the merc's voices. Their voices, annoying or not, add so much character to JA:DG.

  • Another tip: Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games was also a part of an excellent collection called "The Ultimate Strategy Archives" (Interplay), bundled with a number of other games (M.A.X., X-Com: UFO Defense, Civilization, Conquest of the New World Deluxe, and more)... you can probably get the whole lot of strategy / war classics for around $8-12! This collection is out of print, but it pops up frequently as new old stock or at online auctions. Search: "Deadly Games", "Ultimate Strategy", "ultimate strategy collection", "ultimate strategy archive"... something's gotta come up! You shall be victorious.

  • Another box set: Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games was also a part of the "Ultimate Strategy Pack" (Sonoma Multimedia), bundled with Perfect General II, Steel Panthers, and The Civil War: 1861-1864. You can find this collection for about $8-12 as well. It is also out of print, not quite as attractive as the above set of games, and is a bit tougher to find.

29 March 2001 (added a few freakin' good links, too, Ace! I love this job, Ace!)
12 October 2005 (Yeah, I'm back actually, just to add Linx's biography editor!
And yeah, I still play Jagged Alliance and Deadly Games, as promised. :-)

Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games is © 1996, Sir-Tech Games... yeah, it's from 1996, but I love it, and I'm sure that I'll still play it even in 2006 and 2016-- if you don't like it, that's tough horse crap, Woodrow!

And thanks for visiting! --Mark B.
